Description
The Government Museum and Art Gallery, Chandigarh, is a premier cultural institution known for its significant collection of Gandharan sculptures, Pahari and Rajasthani miniature paintings, ancient Indian art and contemporary works. The museum’s collection originated partly from the former Central Museum in Lahore following the Partition of India. Designed by Le Corbusier, the museum building was inaugurated on 6 May 1968. Today, it preserves approximately 13,000 objects and promotes art education, exhibitions and cultural appreciation.
